Why We Hate HR. 29 June 2010

Why We Hate HR

Special note of thanks to Jay Shepherd, who runs the Shepherd Law Group, a Boston employer law firm. Jay drew reference to what I believe to be a thoroughly interesting and controversial article written some five years ago by Keith Hammonds, Fast Company’s deputy editor. The article is entitled Why We Hate HR.

It is a long piece on why we hate HR, why it does such a bad job and how we can fix it.

One of the interesting points Keith makes is something I’ve regularly discussed – the point that HR talks about becoming strategic partners and getting a seat at the table.  It’s a whole lot of rhetoric, he argues and the fact is that HR has no seat. HR is for the most part, neither strategic nor leaders.

I’d like to get some debate on some of the issues raised. It may be an older article but many of these points are worthy of discussion even now…..
