The Problem with Not Listening is That You Don’t Hear. Do you know what listening is about? It’s about really hearing what someone has to say. And you certainly can’t do that when you have an agenda of your own to get across or when you already pre-suppose what the other person has to say. Communication is a journey, as opposed to a destination, and one fraught with much difficulty. It’s affected by so many different nuances. Getting a perspective across, making your point, articulating and debating… whoosh, that’s a killer sometimes. But the problems of communicating across race, gender and culture, of trying to articulate your point as best you can come nowhere close to the problem of someone who is simply not interested in listening at all.
