Note to my younger self : It’s all in your mind. Keep going, keep trying.

Hi there

It’s understandable that you think you know everything you need to know. You’ve been through a lot and all these experiences have come together to present to you a picture of who you are. You’ve done well, why should you not feel good about your progress?

But I want to tell you one thing : it’s all in your mind. So much of what you want to do, so much of what you see, reflect and decide on is affected by your mindset. And I know one thing : your mindset, your set of opinions, beliefs and convictions can make or break you. They can determine the girl you will become.

Why? Because your mind is far bigger and more impactful than your experiences. It’s what you tell yourself about your experiences that determine the choices you make thereafter. It’s what you convince yourself about what you endured, what you felt, that will indicate whether you move ahead or retreat.

I came across a quote some years back and it really resonated with me and has stuck with me ever since :

Anything’s possible.

Because it is.

Because it’s really about what you tell yourself.

Because it’s about how you make sense of what you see and if you see things in a good light, in a positive way, it makes a difference.

This is not to say that everything is good and that there is no bad news. This is not to say that there are no bad people. But things are seldom all black and white, we have shades of gray all around us.

When you are young, you feel that you’ve got things figured out. But leave a space for possibility. For trying new things and being open to new experiences. Be open to the idea that you may change your mind.

You may think that happiness lies in control of your situation, your experiences and your circle of influence. Happiness arrives when you realise that you are now able to control your mind, through greater self awareness and self mastery.
